Like an apple a day we’re all well aware that a devoted skin care regime is important to maintaining a healthy, youthful glow– but why? Certified medical esthetician Rita Kaptur from Medulla & Co Yorkville’s Le Petit Spa is here to crack the code on why regular facials are the key to an invigorated sheen.
“At the most basic level, think of your skin as an extension of the body” notes Kaptur, “And like your body, your skin needs vitamins for good health. A facial is a process which prepares your skin to absorb the necessary nutrients you are about to ‘feed’ it”.
And how can we attain these necessary vitamins and improve skin’s health? “Through products (such as PCA’s rejuvenating serum) which contain vitamins A, C and E. Vitamin A is an exfoliant, Vitamin C aids collagen production while achieving an even skin tone (for that youthful glow) and Vitamin E heals the skin“. Rita further explains, “The removal of dead skin cells (exfoliation) brings collagen to the surface; reviving the look of skin while making way for product absorption. As we age, collagen production decreases, causing wrinkles and a reduction in skin firmness. Stimulating cells to produce collagen minimizes wrinkles and augments skin’s appearance“.
Her best kept secret? Chemical peels: “A facial paired with a less intrusive chemical peel advances exfoliation; deeper exfoliation allows a product’s vitamins to better permeate the skin. Without it, you risk the effectiveness of your trusted skincare products”.
Rita suggests committing to regular facials (every 4-6 weeks) in your late 20’s. But, for teens with troubled skin (acne), facials are necessary to prevent scarring and marking as they cleanse and rejuvenate the skin.
