Fashion Magazine: West Coast Colourists & Sun-Kissed Locks

By on , in Colour Phenoms, We Love

Gilt Group, an article in the June 2012 issue of Fashion Magazine,  uncovers some of the world’s best in colour- all hailing from the Golden state, California. With an ample supply of beach blonde hair at their finger tips (or brushes, so to speak), these blonde buffs have both the right amount of  inspiration and expertise to achieve quintessential ‘California girl’ locks.

A distinctive group, West Coast colourists are able to emulate unrefined hues so incredibly multidimensional and refreshing; each carefully studying how the sun naturally kisses the hair for a look that only Mother Nature’s hand could paint. Hair On The Avenue friend and gifted colourist, Johnny Ramirez has mastered the ombre technique (a little ‘prize’ from the sun: a subtle fade from dark to light) through observation of his daughters untouched colour, whereas Harry Josh– the man responsible for Gisele’s trademark mane– took bleach to hair free-hand ” She showed me pictures of what her hair looked like just from hanging out on the beach (…) So we got bowls of bleach and sat in my apartment and I just grabbed chunks of hair and bleached the ends out”.

A shared love for natural hair pattern and deviation from calculated/mechanical colours united Ramirez with HOTA’s Luis Pacheco in October 2011; both members of an instinctual artistry which emphasizes the delicate details of the sun, taking colour to new places- regardless of region.
