The world of communication and creativity has reached new heights with artists of all kinds inspiring one another and providing various platforms to showcase their work. It was this new creative age that inspired Luis Pacheco of Hair on the Avenue to partner with video artists, visual artists and his team of creative hair stylists including business partner Anthony Ingraldi to launch hAiRT, the salon’s first joint art installation presenting holiday trends.
“I was really moved when I saw the work of Natasha Gouveia,” says Pacheco, founder and co-owner of the Yorkville salon. “The mood and textures in her canvases were similar to our projections for Fall/Winter hair trends so we asked her if she would join us in presenting her upcoming collection,” explaining how the partnership developed into a multimedia show.
The hAiRT exhibit at Hair on the Avenue includes a series of monochromatic and heavily textured pieces of original artwork created by Natasha Gouveia, a Toronto-based artist who explores art history for muses and inspiration in her modern abstract work. The exhibit also serves as a platform to launch the salons first-ever hair film.
Girl on Film
The three minute film, titled Hazel was shot and directed by Peter Tamlin to showcase the dark and seductive side of Fall/Winter11 hair trends. Art directed by Pacheco to portray the epiphany, rebirth and new beginning of a woman who breaks from the social pressures that have confined her and morphs into the strong woman she knows she is.
“It’s that Britney moment,” explains Pacheco of the emotional currents driving the film. “This season is really about fierce attitude and strong women and I loved the idea of giving a hair style a persona and exploring how the look takes shape,” he adds.
“We called the look Industrial Sleek” says Anthony Ingraldi of the bold short cut short developed throughout the film. “It’s very powerful. It’s severe and polished and structured and defined by hard lines.
And the show goes on
The film launched with a VIP reception on Thursday July 21 with media and special guests. The other four top trends for the F/W season were worn on models provided by Elmer Olsen and dressed and styled by the rac boutique in Yorkville. Guests of the reception enjoyed the tasty morsels of Madison8 while sipping on Absolut cocktails custom crafted for the affair.
The exhibit is open to the public at Hair on the Avenue, 112 Avenue Rd Friday July 22 (8a-7p), Saturday July 23 (8a-5p), and Sunday July 24 (10a-4p). Call 416.922.0112 for more information and salon hours.
